Description

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Some Random Thoughts. I am your host, Ryan Mulkowsky. This season, we focus on our guests in the “What’s Your Passion” series. We begin this season with Chance Calloway: LA indie filmmaker, author, screenwriter, and producer.

In this episode, we discuss Calloway’s background growing up as a preacher’s kid in a small town in Coastal Georgia while also learning to embrace his identity as a black, gay man amongst a mostly white, straight population. He then discusses his service in the military and coming out during “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” moving to the other side of the country, his struggles with mental health, and discovering his passion for the arts: namely musicals, plays, screenwriting, producing, and filmmaking. We end the discussion with a deep dive into Calloway’s creative process, his inspirations, what he wants to highlight in his creative work, and how all of these moments have shaped him into the person he is today.

Bio: In the face of personal, global and systemic challenges, Calloway continues to focus his efforts on advocacy and change through art. Calloway founded CSRC Storytelling for printed media in 2012 with a passion for creating and promoting stories that change how people see themselves and the world around them. A few years later he premiered Pretty Dudes, the digital series about Zario, a single man with friends all up in his romantic life.
Calloway is a firm believer not only in quality inclusion and the importance of representation in media, but also in creating quality entertainment across all platforms. As a filmmaker, Calloway focuses on telling wide-reaching visual stories that can change the way people see themselves and the world around them.
