Rachel LaFond is a pianist and composer from Seattle who has also lived in New Zealand, and has recently moved to Austin, Texas. Previously a piano teacher, Rachel and her husband decided to sell what they owned and travel the world. On these travels, Rachel started to compose her original work and has since released many pieces, including her latest album Lost in the Azure. This album is a part of the Outlaw Ocean Music Project, which was created by Ian Urbina, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist who reported on lawlessness in the high seas.
Join me as I discuss the making of this album with Rachel. We'll also talk about Rachel's musical upbringing, her travels with her husband David, and her project The 52, where she composed a piece every week for a year.
