Lance Hillsinger was a child welfare social worker for 34 years. In retirement, He’s written two books: In Place of the Parent: Inside Child Protective Services and Build a Better Bridge: Social Policy for the 21st Century.

In Place of the Parent, in memoir format, describes the child welfare and juvenile court system, how it has improved, and how it could be better still.

Build a Better Bridge examines the social welfare programs that began with the War on Poverty, how these programs have helped, how they can be improved, but also their limitations.

“In Build A Better Bridge, I offer several low-cost/no-cost ideas to address social ills such as high drop-out rates and the increasing lack of affordable housing. “ He joined me this week to tell me more.
