Nearly half of adult women report drinking alcohol in the past 30 days. Approximately 13% of adult women report binge drinking. Among them, 25% do so at least weekly, on average, and 25% consume at least six drinks during a binge drinking occasion, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
For Molly Desch: “Choosing to get sober for me was more of a ‘do this now, or really, really bad things are going to happen’, kind of decision. My options were AA or rehab. I had very little confidence that I could do it alone, so I investigated rehab facilities. They scared the shit out of me, so I decided to go with AA. While AA held me accountable during those first few weeks, I felt something was missing.
I needed something more personalized. I found a couple of sober women online who would email me inspirational stories every day and so I subscribed. I read every book I could on being sober and I took up a side gig of fixing up furniture and reselling it. The first year flew by and after 365 days of being alcohol free, I felt on top of my game! During the second year, I had 3 relapses. The relationship I was in was causing me stress and I returned to drinking on 3 separate occasions. This is when I realized the books, emails, and hobby simply weren’t enough.
This is what started me on my journey to discover the missing elements that could keep me sober, and these are the elements I have used to create my Alcohol-Free Foundations Program. I’m in my third year of sobriety and about to hit another 365 days without a single drink. Not only have I not drank, but I no longer hear the voice inside suggesting I drink. This is not an easy journey, there isn’t a manual on how to do this, so I am here to ensure you are set up for success before you even decide to quit. Because the decision to choose yourself first will be the most important and meaningful decision you’ll ever make.
