Prenuptial agreements are made by a couple before they marry concerning the ownership of their respective assets should the marriage fail.

These agreements are not just for the wealthy and powerful – 62% of divorce attorneys said they saw an increase in clients requesting a prenup, with a significant uptick in millennials signing them, according to a 2019 study by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.  Raymond Hekmat is a seasoned family law attorney who specializes in collaborative prenuptial agreements. “I believe that prenups are the foundation to a healthy marriage, and act as a conduit for having those important conversations about money that couples must have before getting married. I love working with couples in navigating these important conversations to set realistic expectations on how their marriage will work financially.”

He loves talking about prenups, relationships, divorce, and all things family law. He joined me this week to tell me more.
