“Trials” is pulling together a rich set of scriptures about hardship, perseverance, spiritual struggle, and God’s sustaining power:
2 Kings 6:25 → extreme famine in Samaria
2 Kings 7:3–4 → the four lepers taking a risk in the midst of hopelessness
2 Timothy 3:3–5 → description of the last days (perilous times, ungodly behavior)
Romans 8:5–9, 26 → life in the Spirit vs flesh, and the Spirit interceding in weakness.
This creates a theme of survival, struggle, and divine strength in the middle of desperate trials.
