Description
Fenway Park is neighborhood ballpark, but it was almost torn down in 1999. Since 1912, more than 100 years of baseball history has been written here as Red Sox fans have rooted on their team through the good years and the bad. But in the 1990's there was a push by team ownership to knock down the park. They said it was too old, it was falling apart, it was keeping the team from finally winning a World Series. So how was Fenway Park saved?
A grassroots organization named Save Fenway joined forces with a rookie councilman to protect the park from demolition.
Walk the streets around Fenway with Boston Native, life—long member of the Red Sox Nation, and Fenway Historian, Saul Wisnia. He'll share the story of how Fenway was saved, and why the ballpark is so important to this community.
Along the way, you'll check-out the Green Monster and other elements of the most iconic ballpark in the world. You'll grab a beer in one of the fans' favorite pubs and meet some of the vendors who have been part of the Fenway for generations. And you might even get to taste some of the best ballpark peanuts you've ever had.
