Indulge in a walk with The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to discover how an order of queer nuns has transformed the Castro.
55 Minutes
Spreading love and joy through activism and charity never looked as fabulous as it does with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. This Castro community "order" of queer nuns in drag started in 1979 and has been going strong ever since. Narrator Sister Flora Goodthyme, a former drug addict and make-up artist, finally found his calling to do charity work with the Sisters and became one of the youngest Sisters to ever wear the veil. Flora will tell you all about how the Sisters have ministered to the queer community, using humor, protest, and controversial religious imagery to raise over $1 million for various causes.
