  1. When you go to the bank for the first time, you can't just walk in and ask for money; you have to make deposits first. The same is true with referral relationships; you have to make some deposits first by offering real value before being able to earn a referral.
  2. Giving a clear snapshot of what your target client accounts look like and becoming a specialist in one industry will make it easier for you to be referred by your referral partners.
  3. Once you've made enough deposits to your referral partners, it's ok to ask. You'll never get any referrals if you don't ask but don't just ask any general questions, ask specific questions.
