I have heard rumours and learnt so much about who you can be, who people think you are
I have listened to volumes of messages about what you can do, what you have done and what you will yet do,
The God that strikes down sinners when they sin
I heard your forgiveness lasts only till the point of salvation,
and after I receive salvation, I have to work out the rest myself or else you will send me to hell,
I heard your blood has a limit,
I also heard your love is conditional on my works,
That your love has a limit and an end, a love that only loves those that love back,
A love that kicks me out whenever I slack
They told me you only want well dressed people with no tattoos,
Rich wealthy folks, with big cars sitting in high places with big titles,
Could this be why I was told You make everyone rich and if I wasn't rich, I was doing something wrong,
That if I fell sick, and was weak, I wasn’t to be considered among
Among the rich, among the blessed, among the chosen ones of God
And then I met a friend who showed me from scriptures who you truly are,
That you don’t tell people to go away whenever they sin,
That you don’t get annoyed when I call your name in the middle of the night
You don’t tell me to stay away until I clean up my life
Your word in 2 Corin 5: 19 says: For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
So if I hear any voice holding my sins against me, I know that’s not my God
no matter what I do, He is never going to count my sins against me
That’s not my God.
That’s not you at my lowest, making sure I remember every single failure, or every time I missed the mark,
That’s not you in my weakness, telling me I’m not worth the blood on the cross
That’s not my God telling me to give up, or to get weak or to stay depressed and sad,
That’s not your voice, telling me to get angry at a friend or get mad,
You don’t care if I am rich or poor, my God does not segregate or discriminate,
My God is approachable to all, He doesn’t intimidate,
Hate your enemies and do evil to those who do evil to you,
That’s not my God, He will never say such,
Instead in Matt 5:44-45, Jesus says: But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.
Your words are true, eternal and never changing,
You are not a liar; you don’t make a promise and later change your mind
You don’t lead me forward then later tell me to turn back,
You are stickler to keeping your words, your promises are yea and amen,
So if I hear a voice asking me if God really spoke to me,
Or making me question if what you promised will come to pass,
I will know: That’s not my God
Isaiah wrote your words best when you said in Chapter 55:11: so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
You don’t make me question if I should be alive,
Your voice doesn’t tell me to kill myself or give me reasons not to continue living,
So, if I hear a voice telling me that no one loves me and no one will be miss me if I leave this earth,
I should be rest assured, that’s not my God
That can never be my God, that is the thief, that is Satan,
In John 10:10, you rightly said: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
That’s what my God says: I have abundant live,
So whenever I see, hate, pain, depression, violence, pain, death, sickness, suicide or weakness
I must always remember to say: That is not my God
