My guest is Uzoma Asagwara. They are an addictions specialist, registered psychiatric nurse and an elected official as the MLA for Union Station in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Prior to their election, Uzoma worked as a psychiatric nurse specializing in adult and youth mental health and addictions. They have a long history of grassroots community activism and was also a member of the Canadian National Women's Basketball and acts as a mentor for youth athletes in downtown Winnipeg.
Uzoma was one of the first 3 black Canadian MLAs elected in Manitoba and was also the first queer person to win a seat and is Manitoba's first gender non-conforming MLA.
