Today, Monday November 23 - James 2:14-26 - In this passage James says at least twice, that "faith without works is dead." He concludes with this in verse 26, "For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead." We can afford to be wrong about a lot of things and it really won't matter in the long run. I can be wrong in thinking I have a five dollar bill in my pocket and find out as I'm paying at the counter, I only have a one dollar bill. In some cases I can be so wrong that it might cost me untold hours of misery and pain or lots of money. But there is something you can't afford to be wrong about and that is your eternal salvation! Because once you die you don't get a second chance! Hebrews 9:27 says, "It is appointed unto a man once to die and after this the judgment." And basically that's what James is dealing with in the passage before us. Don't be deceived thinking, just because you say you believe in Jesus or God that you have a genuine faith that has given you an eternal salvation. Galatians 5:6 tells us that "Rituals don't really matter, but what really matters is faith working through love." Real faith will show up in works of love in our lives toward others. Please today, make sure your faith is the real thing as you examine your life! God bless!
