“Righteousness Exalts a Nation”
Psalm 72:1-7
“Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king's Son. He
will judge Your people with righteousness, And Your poor with justice. The
mountains will bring peace to the people, And the little hills, by
righteousness. He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save
the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor. They shall
fear You As long as the sun and moon endure, Throughout all generations. He
shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water
the earth. In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace,
Until the moon is no more.
Whether this Psalm was written by David or by his son Solomon we can’t be entirely
sure. But we can be quite sure that this Psalm is about the greater Son of
David, Jesus Christ, Who will rule in righteousness over Israel and all the
earth one day! Over the next few days, we will see this truth from many of the
verses in this beautiful Psalm! One of the great lessons that we learn from the
Scriptures is that the LORD blesses a righteous people, a nation that does
right according to the truths and principles of God’s Word!
Today, on July 4th, we celebrate the birth of our great nation. The history
of America is a testimony to the promises that God makes to a nation that will
acknowledge God and live in accordance with His principles. But America has
also now become a nation that today testifies what happens when we forget God!
Remember these verses today!
“Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own
inheritance” (Psalm
33:12).
In these selected verses from Psalm 9:10-20, we find these great truths that very
much apply to America or any nation for that matter: “And those who know
Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those
who seek You… The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; In the net
which they hid, their own foot is caught. The LORD is known by the judgment He
executes; The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah The
wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God. For the
needy shall not always be forgotten; The expectation of the poor shall not
perish forever.
Arise,
O LORD, Do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged in Your sight. Put
them in fear, O LORD, That the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah”
Whenever we acknowledge Who the LORD is, and seek and trust Him, we will enjoy His
blessings. But if we turn our back on God, He will turn His back on us! When we
“forget God” we will “be turned into hell”. It appears that is what has happened
to America in the last number of years. “The LORD is known by the judgment
He executes”.
When we quit seeking God it like digging a pit or hiding a net to catch a dream or
something that really doesn’t exist. We end up falling into that pit and we become
a nation of addicts snared by the works of our own hands. We are “turned into
hell” and today we are living in a nation plagued with crime, violence, greed,
corruption, division, chaos and confusion!
We are living in a hell on earth!
Our prayer today is that as we turn back and seek the LORD, “He will not forget
the cry of the needy or the expectation of the poor…”. Our prayer is that we will “know
ourselves to be but men” who desperately need God!
Our prayer is, “Even so come, LORD Jesus”, our great King of Righteousness!
Happy July 4th!
God bless!
