Pastor Shawn’s Favorite Psalm
Psalm 148:1-14
1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; Praise
Him in the heights!
2 Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts!
3 Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of
light!
4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above
the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, For He commanded
and they were created.
6 He also established them forever and ever; He made a
decree which shall not pass away.
7 Praise the LORD from the earth, You great sea creatures
and all the depths;
8 Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling
His word;
9 Mountains and all hills; Fruitful trees and all cedars;
10 Beasts and all cattle; Creeping things and flying fowl;
11 Kings of the earth and all peoples; Princes and all
judges of the earth;
12 Both young men and maidens; Old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, For His name alone
is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven.
14 And He has exalted the horn of His people, The praise of
all His saints-- Of the children of Israel, A people near to Him. Praise the
LORD!
I can’t believe that I failed to mention something special
about Psalm 148. In my Bible, over Psalm 148 I have written, “Pastor Shawn’s
favorite Psalm!” Pastor Shawn Taylor was our worship pastor at Rainbow Forest
Baptist Church for ten years. He loved the Psalms and could memorize them like
no one else I have ever known.
Often as part of our praise and worship time, he would
begin quoting Psalm 148 in its entirety without missing a word. It seemed to
come so naturally, and he did it in such a way that was always so beautiful and
encouraging. I’ll never forget it! So, whenever I read Psalm 148, I think of
Pastor Shawn and his family and remember to pray for them.
Today Pastor Shawn is called Chaplain Shawn Taylor. He is
serving in our military as chaplain in the Airforce. He is presently stationed
in Alaska. This summer he and his family will be moving to Mississippi for his
new assignment in the military. We are so thankful for Chaplain Shawn and his
precious wife Dana and their beautiful children. It is a privilege to still be their
pastor and friend. Shawn has been and is still like one of my sons!
I trust that you will take time to pray for Chaplain Shawn
and all our military today and often, as they serve our country in these
dangerous days. I’m sure my son, Chaplain Nathan Grooms, who is presently serving
in the Navy and ministering to the submariners at Kings Bay Naval Submarine
Base in Kingsland Georgia, would also appreciate your prayers!
Today, on this beautiful Spring weekend, let us all join together
in praise as we read this wonderful psalm of praise to our great and awesome
LORD!
God bless!
