“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You."
If you watched the video of the Pastor’s Chat today, you couldn’t help but notice that I was not in my office in Sneads Ferry NC. Yesterday afternoon we received an emergency call from our daughter Kimberly who was frantic because Luke had stopped breathing at the doctor’s office where he was getting his first checkup. They were rushing him to the hospital in an ambulance and she was begging us to come up to Roanoke to be with them.
We immediately begin to pack our clothes and drove to Roanoke and late last night arrived at the hospital to visit with Kimberly and Luke in the NIC unit. The exact same unit that over 120 days ago he went into right after he was born. Luke appears to being doing ok at this time and they are trying to find out why his breathing stopped.
Thank you so very much for all the prayers if you happened to hear about this yesterday! Luke is definitely a miracle baby and has survived because of the prayers of so many. We feel so blessed to have so many friends that have held up our family in prayer over these past four months. Thank you!!!!
Yesterday we begin talking about Psalm 9. We are not sure when David wrote this Psalm but as you read it you can’t help but notice that David is dealing with both personal and national enemies. He is reminding himself of God’s righteous judgments on both individuals and nations who forsake Him and His laws and principles.
But David is also praising the LORD for His protection and care over those who love Him and seek Him. One of my theme verses over the last number of years comes from this Psalm. In verse 9, David speaks of the LORD who is refuge for the oppressed especially in times of trouble. It is then that he writes in verse 10, “And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.”
What an awesome promise we have as we face the challenges of life every day! The key to having this as a present hope is knowing the LORD’S name. I love teaching the names of God. He is so wonderful and beyond comprehension that in the Bible He has over 700 names, titles and descriptions. His names represents His character and His attributes.
As I was walking the other day, I passed a young lady who was carrying a child in her arms for quite a long distance. When I passed her I noticed she was crying as she was talking on her cell phone. I went a little way but then I knew the Lord wanted me to go back to her and ask if I could pray with her. I introduced myself and she seemed very glad for me to say a prayer. When I prayed, I reminded myself and her that our God is El Roi, the God Who sees, which means He knows about our problems and He cares!
Today, I trust you will meditate on His name, then trust Him and seek Him with your whole heart!
