Today, Sunday October 25 - The first chapter in the Bible that I remember memorizing, as a young 19 year old believer, was James chapter one. Matter of fact, a few years later, the first entire book of the New Testament that I memorized was the Book of James. For the next several days or weeks we will be looking at this wonderful book. James is often called the "Wisdom book of the New Testament." James introduces himself as the writer and notes that he is a "servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ." This is interesting because most Bible scholars believe that this James is actually a half-brother of Jesus along with Jude. Can you imagine the temptation that James faced when the Holy Spirit prompted him to pick up his pen and write this letter to the twelve tribes of Jewish believers who had be scattered throughout the world? It would have been very hard not to write, "James, the brother of Jesus." The first lesson we must learn from this book is humility. And James himself modeled this spirit as he begins this book. I trust you will be blessed as we study this book together! Have a great day!
