Today, Thursday October 22 - Jesus taught His disciples to pray by giving them a pattern of prayer in Matthew 6 and Luke 11. In that prayer He teaches us to ask the Father in heaven to forgive us of our debts and our sins. When you truly come into the presence of our Holy Father, almost immediately you will sense your unworthiness and sinfulness. Remember Isaiah and his encounter with God in Isaiah 6. He confessed he was a man of unclean lips. Yes, specific sins will be brought to our attention as we approach our Father. In the Bible there are many great prayers of confession. Daniel prayed one in Daniel 9. Nehemiah records at least two of these prayers in Nehemiah 1 and 9. These prayers included confession of national sins as well as personal sins. The great personal prayer for specific sin in the Bible is the one David prayed in Psalm 51, after Nathan the prophet confronted him with his double sin of adultery and murder. Please meditate on this prayer with me today as we take the time to ask the Lord to cleanse us and forgive us and restore us to fellowship with our heavenly Father. He promised He will forgive us if we acknowledge and confess our sin. (I John 1:7-10) God bless!!
