Today, Tuesday October 6 - Jesus said that "men ought always to pray and not to lose heart." (Luke 18:1) Jesus told 25 different parables in the Gospel of Luke. Many of them deal with the subject of prayer! For the next several days we want to think about this Spiritual discipline of prayer. Oswald Chambers said, "Its not so much that prayer changes things, but that prayer changes me, and then I change things." Today's devotion by Henry and Richard Blackaby, in their Experiencing God devotional said, "Prayer is not designed to change God, it is designed to change us. Prayer is not calling God in to bless our activities. Rather, prayer takes us into God's presence, shows us His will, and prepares us to obey Him." Have you ever noticed all the distractions that flood your mind when you begin to pray? That's why Jesus said that when we pray we are to enter into the closet and "shut the door". Shut the door of all the distractions that keep us from concentrating on the Lord and our communion with Him. Someone said, we live "in the age of the weapons of mass distractions." I trust these next few days you will be encouraged to spend quality time in prayer! God bless!
