This week on the Yellow Brit Road, we took our foot off the pedal and coasted down the chill road. No good taste was harmed or compromised during the recording of this show, with our mixtape (can we a call a playlist that?) featuring the likes of Good Dog from Glasgow, Gorillaz, John and Jehn, Courting, Muse, Shingai, a brilliant cover by acclaimed guitarist Antoine Dufour.
We also celebrated our own stripped-down little version of Glastonbury festival, which was slated to happen the past weekend had everything been normal, with some artists who had a strong start on the BBC Introducing stage! We played Gaffa Tape Sandy, Palm Honey and Arlo Parks.
Gaffa Tape Sandy's Glastonbury BBC Introducing performance can be found on their Bandcamp here.
This week's masala chai, this show's regular feature where we play music from outside the UK, was more of a honied tea, keeping with the chillwave theme. We played Atlanta, GA's Night Beach, Travis Bretzer from Edmonton, Tokyo based delightful dreampop band Cattle, and France's janglepop band Pale Spectres.
Come for the pun, stay for the music. CFRC's Yellow Brit Road brings you your weekly fix of British music every Sunday evening at 8 PM. We talk British music, and its rich and exciting history, and then some!
Listen live on your dial at 101.9 FM in the Kingston area, or on cfrc.ca, Sundays 8 to 9 PM! (Full shows are available in the archive for 3 months from release)
Just a quick note, many of these artists have profiles on Bandcamp, one of the leading sites working to ensure artists get paid fairly for the music they make that is getting us through lockdown. With live gigs, one of their only sources of income, being largely out of question for the year, do consider buying their music and merchandise from there if you can instead of streaming, which has a very disadvantaged payout particularly for smaller, independent artists, who are the backbone of an indie show on a community radio station like ours, without whom this show could not exist.
John and Jehn's And We Run can be heard here. As an added bonus, here's a lovely acoustic session the band performed in 2010 for Soup Kitchen.
The playlist for the show can be found here.
