Making a Substantial Difference - @sharozzie Sharoz Makarechi the founder of @substance_usa joins us to share how a little Iranian girl witnessed a revolution, the loss of her homeland and her father to be thrust into a new country where she was bullied mercilessly for being different. This ignited a compassion for others and she found her creativity and fire for restorative justice which eventually led to launching brands that aligned with her ethos. Substance, the preroll brand helping to end mass incarceration was already in development when she witnessed George Floyd’s killing in 2020 and later became engrossed in the trial. The official soft-launch was 4/20/2021, same day as the trial’s verdict against former police officer Derek Chauvin.
.
Substance commits $8.46 per 12-pack of mini prerolls sold to organizations actively working to end mass incarceration and propel racial equity in the US. The $8.46 represents the last eight minutes and 46 seconds of George Floyd’s life; an important number in American history representing centuries of injustice broadly.
