Bitcoin, the oldest cryptocurrency, on Monday blew past $67,000 for the first time, hitting $67,523.28 in recent trading. The markets have been in a bull mode since the beginning of the October, as the crypto market in total has added nearly $1 trillion to its total value in just a month. Mastercard has formed partnerships with digital asset service companies Amber Group, Bitkub and CoinJar in order to allow consumers and businesses across Asia Pacific to obtain crypto-linked Mastercard credit, debit and prepaid cards, the company said in a statement Monday. Incoming New York City Mayor Eric Adams said on Thursday that he will take his first three paychecks in bitcoin when he takes office in January. The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill that contains a controversial cryptocurrency tax reporting requirement. The House voted in favor of the bill with at least 218 ayes late Friday night, fulfilling a key priority for the Biden administration amid controversy over whether an accompanying Democrat-led bill would also move forward. The Senate originally passed the bill in August after lawmakers shot down any attempts at amending the crypto provision.
