Sitting on big news? Stressed about work? Money problems? All things we loose precious hours of sleep over. Today, I share a few techniques that I'm currently implementing to help get me to sleep or back to sleep. I know I'm not the only one. Nearly a third (30%) of Americans said they occasionally lose sleep because they’re worried about work. Whether it’s work, money, relationships, health, politics, or something else on your mind that’s making it hard to get the rest you need to get ahead, a lack of sleep could seriously interfere with the career goals you’re working so hard to reach.

When we are so focused on our career, it can be easy to forget that what we do after work is just as important. Our hobbies, relationships, exercise and most importantly, sleep! But even if you know that sleep is important for your productivity and success at work and are trying to make it a priority, you might have trouble falling and staying asleep. And sometimes it’s work itself that’s causing the problem.

Try these 10 Tricks:

  1. No TV in bed. Bed is the sleep location.
  2. Making a To-Do List for tomorrow before you get ready for bed.
  3. Avoid looking at your phone or devices before bed, in bed, or when you can't sleep in the middle of the night
  4. The 4 7 8 Breathing Technique to decrease your heart rate 8% to prep you for sleep.
  5. Two types of Showers: Hot or Cold both have benefits for your body to get into sleep mode.
  6. Sleep Naked. Avoid restricting yourself especially when you sleep. 
  7. Stick one foot out from under a blanket and open a window.
  8. Download a sleeping podcast.
  9. Instead of stressing, "I can't sleep" try recounting your day. "Accept the unacceptable"
  10. Try holding a simple yoga pose for 3-5 minutes.
