Self Worth is not just self-esteem or self-acceptance. Self worth truly comes from Y.O.U. It’s not about your social media followers or the amount of friends you have, your job, the amount of money you’re worth, your relationship status. It truly comes from you my friend. You are the only one that can determine your self worth!

Merriam-Webster defines self worth as: “a feeling that you are a good person who deserves to be treated with respect”.

Self-worth is recognizing ‘I am greater than all of those things.’ It is a deep knowing that I am of value, that I am loveable, necessary to this life, and of incomprehensible worth. This sense of being good enough and worthy of love and belonging from others. Self-worth is often confused with self-esteem, which relies on external factors such as successes and achievements to define worth.

The self-worth theory posits that an individual’s main priority in life is to find self-acceptance and that self-acceptance is often found through achievement (Covington & Beery, 1976). In turn, achievement is often found through competition with others. The theory holds that there are four main elements of the self-worth model:

  1. Having the Ability;
  2. Putting in the Effort;
  3. How you Perform
  4. Your Self Worth

I’m gonna break down all the things we “think” are self-worth vs. the reality:

Anything or anyone but yourself: I feel my self worth, do you? Take this with you: You are the only one who determines your self-worth. If you believe you are worthy and valuable, you are worthy and valuable!
