In the fourth episode, Oliver gives you three reasons why we all procrastinate and a guaranteed way to stop.
Procrastination. A gentle word for a simple concept.
Procrastination is another way of saying: "I do not have the discipline needed for this task, so I am going to put it off/most likely not even do it."
Everyone suffers from this, and technically there is nothing wrong with it.
The issue begins to pose a severe risk to your personal growth and productivity when you allow procrastination to hamper your progress.
Instead of sitting down and working on your assignment or cleaning the house, you sit on your phone for an hour watching Tiktoks.
You need to stop.
Why do we procrastinate? There are a few reasons.
Suppose you feel that the task at hand is overwhelming. Break it down.
If the task at hand is not engaging, do something that speaks to you. (This applies to study/work/projects, NOT to chores around the house. Do the bloody dishes.)
If you are worried/concerned about failure after you complete the task at hand, then the only way to guarantee failure is not to try at all. Question your rationality.
Do you have some superhero whom you have on speed dial who will swoop in and save your day?
Are you just that intelligent and smart that you can put off your work to the last minute/day and still manage a decent mark?
Imagine you expended time and effort, where would you be?
Life is difficult as it is, but it will become unforgiving to those who are unpracticed in discomfort.
Practising discomfort is another way of saying: "Learn to front-load your pain", which means to develop a proclivity for tasks that you do not want to complete.
Procrastination is a pervasive and damaging issue, and it boils down to a lack of discipline.
You must improve your ability to say "no" to yourself, it is the only way to defeat your desire to procrastinate.
Imagine: you are working away, and the person you hate most in the world strolls into the room and shows you a funny video.
You decide to look at it.
You laugh.
Then get back to work.
This person steps away from you for a few moments then ambles back to your face and shows you another video.
This time, you are engrossed; you cannot look away.
When you check the time, you realize that you have just wasted 45 minutes of your life.
You glance behind you.
There is no one there.
It was you all along.
You are your own worst enemy.
Whenever you hear that voice in your mind telling you to put something off, you need to order him/her to be quiet.
Fight.
Be strong.
You are holding yourself back every time you give in!
You can and will do this!
Success occurs in your mind before it manifests itself in the physical realm around you.
Be the person you are meant to be.
Stand-up and fight your desires.
