National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by reporter Ron Strom on July 3, 2003, for an online article published on July 4, 2003, titled, "Polygamists see open door for acceptance." This interview sought the pro-polygamy response to the US Supreme Court decision of Lawrence v. Texas, decided the previous week on June 26, 2003. WorldNetDaily was a vehemently constitutionalist conservative news site with a strong evangelical Christian foundation as well. Mark Henkel intentionally used the tribal commonoplace rhetoric known to (and "required by") conservatives of that time, in order to establish his ethos as a serious, Bible-studied, non-Mormon, Christian constitutionalist - by which to successfully make his arguments to persuade that specific conservative Christian audience in 2003.
