"So, our system, our medical, and otherwise is kinda hard to navigate. And we don't have, I don't know, there's not a really big "how to system" out there" Andrea Zaite

Kim Hegwood has a conversation with Andrea Zaite about her role in helping seniors and their families as a Life Care Manager. A few of the questions Kim will ask are:

Andrea graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1990 while working for the Help Foundation to deinstitutionalize people with disabilities. She worked as a manager/ administrator for the County Board of Mental Retardation 7 years prior to moving to Houston.  Andrea started working in the medical field here in Houston and spent 7 years as the ICU social worker/ case manager. She realized that many families never talk about their wishes should they become critically ill or require advanced life support care.

"This lack of discussion often tore families apart and I wanted to find a way to help facilitate the discussion. I worked on becoming certified as a grief recovery specialist to help with this process. I also provide in-service training and talks on grief recovery as well as “having the conversation”. I think it is important that family members discuss what is and isn’t important as they age and face health challenges." Andrea Zaite
