What happens when three young, intelligent and forward thinking Black women decide to be the change they want to see? A nonprofit publication and multimedia platform is born.
Brown Sugar Literary magazine, aims to capture and share the stories, photography, memoirs, and more of women of color. Within the pages of Brown Sugar Lit, women from various backgrounds and identities take command of their creative expression and create a community where their culture and living voices are celebrated with all the heart and beauty they deserve.
In this episode, I chat with Imani Parker, Ashley Imane and Shanille Martin about the trials and triumphs of surviving COVID, overcoming doubt and depression, building a brand as friends and the importance of representation of people of color within the literary world.
The first issue of Brown sugar, literary magazine, scheduled for release on November 27, 2020, has not only influenced positivity within their lives, but other writers and authors across the world. Be sure to visit brownsugarlit.com to learn more about their mission, how to submit your work for publication and to be in the know about the wonderful things these young women have in store for the literary world, future generations of writers and beyond.
