Today I want us to think about this: who can I encourage? Someone may be ready to throw in the towel and quit. Who can you encourage today? Some have a wonderful gift to encourage others and build them up. We need encouragement more than ever before. Many times in life, if we’re honest, we can find ourselves discouraged. There are times in life where we are let down and disappointed. Things have not gone as we hoped or planned. In our walk with Christ, we are constantly assaulted by the enemy of our souls who’s whole purpose is to steal, kill and destroy and wants to keep us discouraged.
One of the fastest keys to stopping discouragement coming against you is to give thanks. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Jesus fought the devil with these words…’it is written.’ As I mentioned last week, we need to know what the Bible says. It is our offensive weapon against the tactics and schemes of the enemy. Sometimes there is no one else to encourage us and we need to be like David where it says he encouraged himself in the Lord.
Encouragement is very important. We may not know how vital this expression of love is for God’s people. In one sense, encouragement is like oxygen in the life of a church. It keeps things going like a glass of cool water on a hot day. Never underestimate this gift and its ability to lift up another brother or sister in Christ! One word of encouragement can make all the difference!
