Mark 1:16-18 (Amplified)
16 And passing along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon [Peter] and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net [to and fro] in the sea, for they were fishermen.
No sooner has Jesus began His ministry, He starts by calling men to follow Him. He moves from Nazareth to the Galilee region settling in Capernaum and finds fishermen to be the ones that He calls first. We would think that He’s going to the rabbis, religious leaders, the learned, the educated, the scholars to be His disciples, but no He selects (after praying all night), regular, ordinary men. Working class men who were at their jobs when called. Jesus chose these men not for who or what they were, but for what Jesus could do through them. He does the same with us. He sees in us that which we often cannot see. He calls forth things that are not as though they are. He sees our tremendous potential.
