These last few weeks we have been looking at some beautiful exchanges that God gives us. He gives us Beauty for Ashes, Life for Death,Hope for Hopelessness, and today we are looking at Strength for Weakness. Compared to Almighty God, we are unquestioningly weak. Have you ever tried to stand against waves of the ocean as they come crashing in? You realise how weak you are compared to the roar of the sea. God created that! Sometimes in life and as followers of Christ, we can feel weak and timid. The Holy Spirit took 11 scared, weak, and timid followers and changed the world! Good news today, if you feel weak or afraid, He gives strength for our weakness!
Judges 6 we are introduced to a man named Gideon. For seven years, Israel had been under constant terror from Midian. They raided Israel’s lands. They took or destroyed their crops, took their livestock, and they killed people. They were such a threat that the people would hide from them. They would have to work in some hidden place, because if not, they would be raided. We find Gideon threshing wheat in secret. He’s doing it in order to save it from the Midianites. He has an amazing encounter with an Angel of God. Gideon is called to lead Israel to fight against the Midianites.
“The angel of the Lord who appeared to him said to him, ‘The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior.’” Now, that surely got a chuckle out of him. O valiant warrior – he is anything but a valiant warrior! He is hiding so his wheat won’t be stolen. Join us today and we hope you are encouraged by this message.
