This week we look at the visit of the wise men. These men saw a star that announced the birth of the King of the Jews. This baby was unlike any other ever born! Joseph didn’t beget Jesus. He came through an earthly mother but was born of the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament gave this criteria: the Messiah would be born of a woman, of the seed of Abraham, through the tribe of Judah, and from the family of David. Jesus is the only One Who can prove His divinity and heredity! It then moves to the birth of Jesus, which was prophesied some 700 years before by Isaiah. Mary’s son was called Jesus, the Christ, with three specific names assigned to Him. Jesus was the Greek form of Joshua ‘Jehovah is salvation’. There were many boys called Jesus at that time, but not any referenced as’ the Christ’. Christ means ‘anointed’ and is the Greek equivalent of Messiah. He is Jesus the Messiah; Jesus is human name, Christ is His official title, and Emmanuel describes Who He is- God with us!!
