The US Federal Reserve is currently pursuing expansionary monetary policy. Their quantitative easing program means that they buy $ 120 billion worth of financial assets every month. It keeps the prices of those bonds and treasury bills high and the yields low. Cheap liquidity helps support the recovery of the US economy. This keeps the dollar weak and the stock market strong. So what happens when the Fed chair Jerome Powell says he thinks they should start scaling down the expansionary policies?
