DEPENDENCE ON GOD
Tuesday 18th April 2023
Jeremiah 17:5 Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
We serve a jealous God that has no competitor or rival, especially to a believer. That is why you must be careful and stay away from anything that comes into your life and tries to mimic or substitute God (Exodus 4:14, 1 John 5:21)
Proverbs 27:21The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, And a man is valued by what others say of him.
We have a tendency of telling God: "You are our confidence, our everything," which is easy to declare in seasons of lack, pain, or poverty; human beings can go through these times without revealing their true-self; but if you want to know a man, put him in power, give him authority or wealth and you will see the 'true' embedded in him.
Many began well with nothing; they threw themselves in the arms of God and the truth that God gave them but as they progressed, and began to prosper, or increase, they began to take detours.
Proverbs 30:8-9
[8]Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches— Feed me with the food allotted to me;
[9]Lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.
Often, people abandon God when they are in places of abundance and become thieves when in lack. Of course, the Holy Spirit can help you but it takes discipline: God must always be our dependency and confidence that nothing should take His place in our lives. This is the biggest test for people of affluence, wealth, or higher authority.
God testifies of David as a man after His own heart: he had wealth without limit, authority, and power but his heart was still locked unto God one hundred percent: this takes God. (Acts 13:22)
However, Saul, a few years into his kingship had drifted off until a prophet had to come and wake him up (1 Samuel 15:17) . This should propel you to check yourself; no matter the blessing, influence, grace, or lifting flowing through you, to see if you are still standing in that position you once started with or even deeper, in terms of your dependency/trusting of God.
Look at Jesus, to whom the Spirit was given without measure and there was no limit to His anointing and the Holy Spirit found expression through Him, yet He only raised three people from the dead and yet He had the power to raise all the people who died during His time of earthly ministry. (Luke 7:11-17, 8:40-56, John 11:1-44)
STAY BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVORED, WE LOVE YOU. PASTOR BEN OCHOLA!
