THE VIRTUE OF PATIENCE

Monday 17th April 2023

Patience is a very important key for you to walk in divine timing.

The Bible is full of men and women who were either late or ran ahead of their time because they never understood how God works.

Genesis 16:1-2 1]Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. [2]So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.

God had promised to give Abraham a son but it looked like what He had spoken would not come to pass. He, therefore, went ahead and listened to the suggestion of his wife without consulting God first.

They had detoured earlier to Egypt without consulting God; where Sarah had been taken by Pharaoh and would have become his wife if it had not been for the mercies of God (Genesis 12:10-20).

When they returned, they returned with Hagar who had now become Abraham's second wife because of Sarah's suggestion and Abraham's failure to consult God.

Genesis 16:3-4 [3]Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. [4]So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.

If God has said nothing, do nothing; do not presume, make any move or run ahead of Him but rather stay in that place of seeking Him because you are safer where you last heard God from than running ahead of Him.

It may look like nothing is happening, but those are the things that teach us to be patient.

The temptation to prove a point is high and many have fallen victim; they run ahead of God and before they know it, they run out of strength and backslide because they never understood the process.

Divine timing is key in fulfilling prophecies.

David cultivated the virtue of patience and continued doing what he was graced for until the proper time came for him to sit on the throne.

David had all it took to sit on the throne but he waited patiently.

It is one thing to wait when you have the anointing on your life but without resources but it takes heaven for you to wait when you have all it takes.

Read: 1 Samuel 17:17-18:

King David, who had been anointed by Samuel, was asked by his father to take food to his brothers who were in war.

Qn: Do you have the humility and grace to serve your brothers food when you have already been anointed king?

David had not gone to fight Goliath, but when he heard what was happening at the battle front, he knew that he could confront the Philistine because of the wilderness experiences he had gone through while alone. (1 Samuel 17:20- 36).

There are things and lessons that God wants us to learn in secret before we ascend to the place that He wants us to have. If we do not learn them in secret, we shall fail in public.
