In episode 17 Anna is joined by artist Nettle Grellier, Nettle’s practice focuses on drawing and painting within the subject of portraiture and creating unique worlds. Nettle graduated from Her undergraduate at Brighton in 2015 and then moved to Spain where for two years she travelled around making work. In 2017 she set up a residency that supported emerging artists in making work on a farm in Spain. Nettle now finds that her paintings are very influenced by Spain from the landscape and arid colours where she will often use reds and yellows. Nettle is really interested in bring humour into her work and feels it is particularly important after the year of 2020, in her portraits you will often find a figure playing with a slug or flowers. Nettle is moving back to Cornwall where she is going to take herself on a drawing residency to draw new inspiration for her work. She also has a duo exhibition at Blue Shop Cottage alongside Plum Cloutman opening in 2021.
