In this weeks episode Anna is joined by Tuesday Riddell a London based painting who focuses on the painting practice of Japanning. Tuesday studied BA Fine Aft at City and Guilds of London Art School where she focused on painting, however after her BA she felt that she had not found her grove in her own practice. In 2017-18 won a scholarship from the Paint Stainers Guild to a fellowship at City and Guilds focusing on traditional painting practices. This is where Tuesday learnt about japanning and was the most influential period of learning for her practise. In Tuesday’s work she creates worlds of naturally beauty filled with animals, landscapes and plants. From a young age Tuesday has always been really interested by nature and as a child used to try to collect butterflies to play with. Tuesday has exhibited in London and beyond and one of her favourite shows was her solo show with Messums London. Check out Tuesday’s Instagram to learn more about her unique practice.
