Super Power Podcast- Season 1 Episode 4

Thembalethu Buthelezi is a Principal Economist in the Economic Research Bureau at the Competition Commission. In her current role, she has provided economic expert testimony before the Competition Tribunal in complex mergers and abuse of dominance conduct cases.

Prior to joining the Competition Commission, she worked at Genesis Analytics, an economic consultancy,  as an associate in the competition and regulatory economics practice area. She holds a MCom in Economic Science from the University of the Witwatersrand as well as a Masters degree in Competition and Market Regulation from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. She has presented and published several research papers on competition economics related topics.

I loved talking to Thembalethu, as she explained the importance of a competition commission in an economy and her journey to gain confidence in the work she does. Mentorship and representation, has been instrumental to her career and she pays it forward by doing and the being the same for others. Navigating through corporate spaces, taking a sabbatical in-between and with the goal of pursuing a Doctorate, she reminded me how important it is to have a bigger WHY not just for your career but for yourself as well.
