Welcome to the last episode of The Polaroid Podcast for the month of November 👋🏾 On Today’s episode, I have Georgetown RHP and former Andover baseball player Anthony Redfern. Born in Easthampton, Mass, Redfern grew up on a street with 5 farms. Both in the class of 2018, Anthony and I became great friends and classmates. Before Andover, Redfern did 2 years at Easthampton High School and was destined for a Junior year as a 2 sport Captain in baseball and Soccer. Leaving EHS was by no means easy for Redfern, but travel coach and Andover Head Coach Kevin Graber helped sweeten the pot. With Andover, Redfern would be entering a team with reputation, high expectations, and great development all while attending the top school in the country. Originally recruited to Big Blue Baseball as a Catcher, Redfern entered a crowded depth chart. This led to his eventual switch to pitcher. Alongside highly-touted, older teammates, as well as stellar play from fellow underclassmen , Redfern and Andover captured 2016 Championship. In the months leading up to the season, Redfern recalls academic struggles and says “It was no smooth sailin’ going from Easthampton to Andover”. 2016 had more in store for Redfern, as his recruiting heated up. Ivy’s, Big East schools, and many D1 programs in between reached out to Redfern, who consulted alumni baseball players before making his ultimate decision. In November of just Junior year, Anthony committed to Georgetown University. In his Senior Campaign, Redfern was again apart of an incredibly talented bullpen. As a team, their ERA sat below 1 , and Redfern ended his Andover career with an ERA of .87. Redfern was motivated this year by the previous year’s championship loss, and trained accordingly. After a successful 5 year high school career, Anthony headed to Georgetown ready to prove himself. Life would get in the way though, as it does sometimes. Redfern suffered the first major injury in his life, just weeks into Fall Ball with the Hoyas. A Lat injury evolved into a Shoulder Impingement, which put a damper on Redfern’s Rookie campaign. A summer in Seattle was crucial to his rehabilitation, and Redfern described his journey as a “Full 180”. He emerged from Seattle stronger than ever, with a fast ball touching 92 miles an hour. Redfern finally began to see the fruits of his labor this past fall, capturing his first victory against UMBC. Due to Coronavirus, Anthony hasn’t played in a Hoya uniform in awhile. But, he’s ready for when his number is called. During the pandemic, he’s been training nonstop throughout the week. As I note in the beginning, Redfern is on track for Fall 2021 graduation from Georgetown, and is eyeing this Spring’s Draft.
