What’s goin on 🌎, happy 2021!! Welcome to the very first Podcast episode of the year. 22 episodes in 2020 later, we’re here to bring our Jordan episode with Justice Crawford also known as JC. Crawford was born in Chicago and raised in Atlanta, moving around multiple times in his early years of life. He credits his Mother and her own grind for helping better his living situation. A troubled adolescent, Crawford often felt isolated and like the odd one out in his family. When he was about 8 or 9, his Mother re-married, and he switched schools yet again. During this time, one of the few things that helped his transition was a love for anime. Going to private schools with mostly white students made fitting in all the more difficult, though Crawford was more directly concerned with the hour long drive to school. During our interview, Justice pointed to his first encounter with a bully as a moment that changed his life. Making his life “hell”, Crawford was tired of standing out for what he felt like were the wrong reasons. Around the 20 minute mark, Justice details how his coerced participation in a fight led to his expulsion from a former school. His time there wasn’t all bad however, because it was there that he made his first song. As “Justice 2 Cold”, he made a diss track, mostly in jest, which got above average exposure and recognition within the school. It was around this time where he started taking his musical education into his own hands, listening to countless hours of Young Nudy, Lil Baby and Young Thug. After his expulsion, he enrolled at North Atlanta High School. At the numerous schools that he attended before North Atlanta, his final high school, he felt disconnected. However at North Atlanta, not only did he carve out his niche and find new friends, he started focusing on his grades more. As he tells it, his Mother made sure that he knew there would be no sports without an upkeep of his academics. She would also continually drive home the point that Crawford, along with his siblings, would go to college. Alongside his 2 brothers, Crawford enrolled at Howard. Initially changing his Major a few times, and walking on to the track team, music was not yet on the forefront for him. It was when he started hanging out and making music with the other members of group, Katalyst Black, that solidified music as a passion. According to Crawford, the group of friends would hang out night after night listening to beats and freestyling. All off the top of his head, he meshed well with the group and gained much needed confidence in himself as an artist. On Valentine’s Day of 2019, he was apart of 4 tracks on Kataylst Black’s Joint record, “4 Roses”and was delighted with the support he received. He believed that he owed it to himself to take the craft seriously, and has begun acting accordingly. The past few weeks, he’s been submitting freestyles to @HowardMusiq on Instagram in anticipation for January releases. His first Official single “Star”, is out now(link below). Stay tuned for the rest of #JCJanuary for more from Crawford. Recorded: 1. 5. 21. Let’s run all 2021 🏃🏾♂️🙏🏿 Star Link: https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/qTn8yqcLpDN5tBnj9
