Paul and Glenn are back for another entertaining episode. This week we will discuss those cities/countries who took hold of and snatched events away from other cities/countries. We will discuss in detail how Melbourne as a city have taken hold of most of the major sporting events in Australia and is regarded as the “Sports capital of the country”. In this episode we will also discuss some of the following:
- The history of a well-known motor racing event and how one city who was doing a great job in staging had it taken away in a shifty manner.
- The corruption involved in World Cup bids, especially with Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
- Major Sporting events going interstate during the COVID period eg, AFL and NRL Grand Finals.
- Corruption in Olympic bids.
- Cities taking hold of sporting franchises, especially in America.
- Sporting teams in Australia eg, NRL taking some of their home games interstate.
- A well-known American professional baseball team which had a series of nicknames and were based in New York, then in a shock move, were relocated to the other side of the country leaving many fans devastated.
- Who sporting teams decide to relocate
- Why Melbourne is regarded as the sports capital of Australia.
We have our Claps and Slaps for the week. We also have our Quiz and What Am I? and Where Are They Now? segments and Glenn finishes off the show with another cracking joke.
