Today's Scripture: John 12:27-50
Main Idea Christ’s purpose was to please the father through His obedient death so that we might have life in Him through faith
Point #1 Christ’s ambition was to bring honor to the Father even at the expense of comfort.
27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour'? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” (John 12:27-28)
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! (Psalm 115:1)
Point # 2 Christ’s sacrificial death renewed our purpose to glorify the Father.
v. 46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. (John 12:46)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Point #3 Christ will justly judge those who reject His words.
“We live in a world that is unimpressed with God as someone who stays seated for the bride at a wedding” -John Onwuchekwa
V. 48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. (John 12:48)
