So many of our nation’s small businesses and business owners are suffering right now. Trying to bend and flex in this new, unknown model, running at minimal capacity to try and meet the needs of our community and not go bankrupt. We are asking A LOT of our small businesses, who bring so much life, culture, beauty, and enjoyment to our lives. We are asking them to STILL be our place of solace, but to also be our place of safety, and to figure it out without complaint or change.
We wanted to do the best we could to shed light on the reality of what our small business owners truly experience in life, not to mention life during a global pandemic. And although you’d think the conversation would be abysmal and full of despair, most entrepreneurs we’ve talked to just have that unique quality of always hoping for the best, while expecting the worst- but most of all, never giving up, if possible. Quite frankly, there are times when letting go is necessary, but letting go isn’t always giving up. As you’ll hear from our guest today, entrepreneurs know the difference.
Our desire to speak with someone in the industry took the shape of a beautiful conversation with Naomi Levine. Talk about an absolute boss, or someone with the grit to stand up to the realities of life without being dissuaded. Once deemed “cake maker to the stars”, Levine has originated several outstanding, artisan cake businesses, and has an incredible story of love, loss, and staying in the “babe” zone that was an amazing ride for Kelly and I.
Levine, an Australian immigrant, came to America in 1999 because she believed America would be her “land of opportunity”. And as you will hear from her story, it absolutely was- and according to her, despite the ups and downs- still is. Determined to create something beautiful from the ground up, Levine discusses her long hours, single-minded determination, and the foundational belief that her cakes would be worthy of top-dollar prices blossomed into a burgeoning business, and one of many.
As you’ll also hear, Levine’s losses have been dear; but has the journey been worth it? Levine’s courageous spirit saturates this conversation as she discusses the value of hard work, loss, and not being afraid of … well… basically anything to get her feet on the ground after having some major setbacks. Now, a wine consultant for Scout and Cellar wines, Naomi sheds light on her future and doesn’t show signs of slowing down moving towards 2021.
We know you will absolutely love to hear about Naomi’s unique perspective and experiences of working with star-status clients, giving back to her community, and treating everyone like a VIP. Her passion for humanity, her love for business and creativity, and her unrelenting spirit will lift you up and inspire you to take that next step you’ve been considering. Oh yeah, and did I mention she’s not only a boss, but a babe? We decided that word was okay to use, even for us feminists, because let’s face it folks, that’s just exactly what Naomi is.
