We are living in some very challenging cultural times where truth is being deconstructed, where views on gender, identity and relationships are being turned upside down, and where violence is being used to squash and to cancel opposing values and beliefs. In these chaotic and disturbing times, we may be tempted to cave or to rationalize away certain biblical truths that go against new cultural norms or to build walls of “truth” to protect ourselves from any outside or unchristian influence. When we build walls, we can forget that we are to love people into God’s kingdom by giving them the grace and space to allow God’s truth to transform and to free them.
May we never let the fear of compromising and conforming to ungodly cultural values and practices cause us to wall up inside this church and suck the love of Christ out of us.
