Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in African American men. But nearly 97% of African American men have a 5 year or more survival rate if they are diagnosed early. So, prostate cancer is survivable by ensuring yearly screening which includes a blood test; PSA and a prostate exam. These two screening items allows the healthcare provider to diagnose and treat the cancer early. Early detention will allow for greater treatment options, less side effects and more importantly survival! If you are experiencing the following please seek medical advice and know that these symptoms are not just associated with prostate cancer. However, they should be addressed by your healthcare provider. Symptoms of prostate cancer may include the following: problems urinating, including a slow or weak urination stream. Frequent urination especially at night, blood in urine and or semen, trouble getting an erection, loss of bladder or bowel control. Pain in hips, back, or chest or other areas from cancer that has spread to the bones. Should you not have resources please check-out the provided links below or @arealnursepodcast.
