On April 20th, 2021 Derek Chauvin was found guilty of 2nd and 3rd degree murder and 2nd manslaughter for his involvement in the killing of George Floyd. With this conviction, Derek could potentially spend a maximum of 40 years in prison. With the verdict being in, the question that must be contemplated is "what happens next" for the black community. Does his conviction now set a precedence for officers who mishandle and misuse their authority? Will this be a one-time thing?
