Listen

Description

Marta and Mary, two sisters who receive Jesus into their home. Martha is preoccupied with household chores, while Mary sits at the feet of Jesus to listen to him. There are two things that differentiate Martha and Mary: it's the difference between focusing on "doing" (like Martha) and focusing on "being" (like Mary), and the value of becoming true disciples of Jesus, which involves listening to him, loving others, and bearing fruit in life. Mary's choice to sit at the feet of Jesus is praised as the "better part."

Differences between Believer & Disciple ;

The Cross – Believer acknowledges the cross, Disciple carries the cross

Obedience – Believer obeys when convenient, Disciple obeys no matter what.

Scripture – Believer picks & chooses to fit his lifestyle, Disciple disciplines his life to fit the scriptures

Prayer – Believer prays when forced too, Disciple intentionally prayers regardless.

Church – Believer attends church, disciple is the church.

Authority – Believer chooses, disciples embraces.

Offence – Believer gets offended and stays offended, disciple gets offended but seeks reconciliation over self-righteousness.

Service - Believer will always compare, a Disciple will always go the second mile.

3 main characteristics of a Disciple

  1. The word – the word is present , it is living , it’s not part of your life IT IS YOUR LIFE.

John 8 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,

  1. Love – Love is not an option , love is not an accessory , LOVE IS everything

John 13 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.

  1. Fruit – you are identified by what you show! Whatever you have on the inside will show on the outside.

John 15 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
