Which of the two do we honestly identify with? Simon the Pharisee or the Unnamed woman? Even though Simon had invited Jesus for a meal, we see that he didn’t welcome Jesus the way perhaps he deserved to be honored. The Unnamed sinful woman instead didn’t care about “crashing the party”: this happens when your desire for Jesus goes beyond etiquette and tradition.
Intimacy was her desire! She was more than willing to put aside Pride and any kind of self-worth, to put everything under the feet of Jesus. She sacrificed perhaps her most precious gift, she gave her all just to be in the presence of Jesus.
What can we learn from the women?
Outrageous faith brings outrageous results. Jesus recognized that she “loved much”; Jesus then said to her that her many sins had been forgiven: “Your sins are forgiven”!
