Distancing yourself from God is setting yourself up for trouble. Initially the boy went to a far land and the distance from his father was a crucial factor We can’t live in darkness – darkness will always be around; it will always try to overthrow light: we need to come into the light!
Coming into the light means exposure – it will be ugly, it will be painful it will feel vulnerable but it is necessary! The boy decided to “stand up” and move towards the father, still dirty, still smelly but these things didn’t stop him from getting to the father.
