One of baseball's most feared pitchers of the 1970s & the ace of the staff of the 1971 World Series Champion Pittsburgh Pirates, Dock Ellis was a character who did things his way. From throwing a no-hitter on LSD to trying to hit every batter in the rival Cincinnati Reds' lineup, Dock could never outrun his substance abuse demons during his baseball career. His post-career work counseling players and people going through addiction issues should be commended, but we are all left wondering "What Could Have Been?" regarding Dock's potential on the pitching mound.
