In a National League stacked with incredible Outfielders in the 1960s, Curt Flood definitely made his mark with the St. Louis Cardinals.
A consistent .300 hitter towards the top of the Redbirds’ lineup, Flood was a 3x All-Star, was a 7x Gold Glove winner and helped St. Louis earn World Series titles in 1964 & 1967.
However, Flood’s most important contribution to the game and professional sports as a whole was his challenge of MLB’s reserve clause. Though it helped to prematurely end what could’ve been a Hall of Fame career for Flood, his sacrifice led to free agency in MLB less than a decade later for his peers and future generations of players.
